An Excursion to Kew - Road Traffic School.

On Monday 10th and Friday 14th August, Viewbank Red and Blue groups will be going on an excursion to Kew Traffic School.

The excursion will leave from Viewbank Preschool at 10.30am and return at 1.30, and the children and adults involved in the excursion will travel by seat belted coach.

There will be 3 staff members participating in the excursion, as well as 3 adult/parent/guardian volunteers. The overall adult-to-child ratio will be 1;4.

All parents/guardians/volunteers participating in the excursion/centre event, will be under the direct supervision of a qualified staff member while assisting in the supervision and care of children on the excursion.

This is a valuable learning experience and a big part of our term 3 program.

Your child will learn -

*Holding hands with an adult to cross the road and Stop! , Look!, Listen! and Think!

*Understanding the meaning of a variety of traffic signs

*How to travel safely in a car – In the back seat using the right restraints, and not distracting the driver.

*The importance of wearing a correctly fitted helmet

*How to ride a bicycle safely.

The children will then be able to put some of the practical lessons into practise on the bike track. Previous groups were very active on their bikes and thoroughly enjoyed cycling around with their friends and following the signs.

The children will be guided in being and becoming safe and independent road users.

The children will develop an awareness of safety in the broader community.

Practise balance and control of a bike.

Communication –

The children will interpret and made meaning of visual representations.

The children will use listening skills during the education session.
